Lincoln City Supporters Heavily boo Chelsea‘s Alejandro Garnacho During Carabao Cup Match
Lincoln City fans relentlessly booed Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho throughout the first half of their Carabao Cup third-round clash on Wednesday. The League One side’s vocal opposition targeted Garnacho every time he touched the ball, accompanied by accusations of diving when he went to ground.
Chelsea, managed by Enzo maresca, entered the match at the LNER Stadium seeking to rebound from a three-game winless streak. However, Lincoln took the led in the 42nd minute with a goal from striker Rob Street.
Maresca fielded a rotated squad, giving starts to players including Tyrique George, Facundo Buonanotte, and andrey Santos. Garnacho, who recently completed a £40 million transfer from Manchester United, made his full Chelsea debut after previous substitute appearances against Brentford and Bayern Munich.
The move to Chelsea followed a reported conversation with Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, who advised Garnacho to seek a new club. Following united’s Europa League final loss to Spurs, Garnacho reportedly described his former team’s season as “s**t,” with the Daily mail reporting concerns regarding his attitude and social media usage.
Garnacho previously faced similar hostility during chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to amorim’s Manchester united on Saturday, receiving boos and an X-rated chant.
“Lincoln fans really not taking to Alejandro Garnacho. At all. Every time he receives the ball he is booed, and every time he is fouled there are loud claims he has dived,” reported Dom Smith of the London Evening Standard on X (formerly Twitter).
Fans on social media reacted to the treatment of Garnacho, with one writng, “Lincoln fans are clearly trying to rattle Garnacho tonight. Good test of his mental strength I guess.” Another commented, “Garnacho getting the rough treatment from the lincoln players and their fans tonight,” while a third stated, “Lincoln are kicking lumps out of Garnacho.”
