MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women’s swimming and diving team members Maggie Wanezek and Julia Herring have been recognized as athletes to watch in the upcoming season, earning spots on the 2025-26 Big Ten Women’s Swimmers and Divers to Watch List, the conference announced Tuesday. The recognition highlights the anticipated contributions of both athletes as the Badgers prepare for a competitive year.
Wanezek, entering her sophomore year, is poised to continue her notable collegiate career after a standout freshman season that saw her earn 2025 Freshman All-Big ten, 2025 second Team All-Big ten, and two Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards. Herring, a transfer from the University of Alabama, brings a decorated background to the team, including a history of success in both diving and swimming.
Wanezek made an immediate impact last season, setting a new Wisconsin school record in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 1:35.04 at the Texas Invitational. She further demonstrated her talent at the Big Ten Championships, breaking the 400 IM record with a time of 3:28.51.
Herring arrives at wisconsin following a successful freshman year at Alabama, where she achieved an NCAA zone cut with a score of 225.90 on platform against West Florida. She also recorded season-best scores of 251.63 on the 3-meter board and 244.70 on the 1-meter board during her time with the Crimson Tide.Prior to college, Herring excelled in high school, winning three consecutive state championships in the 1-meter dive and a gold medal in the 100 freestyle her senior year.
The Badgers will kick off their 2025-26 season at home on Friday, Sept. 26,against Green Bay.
