Kojima Productions Outlines Ambitious Expansion Plans, Including New IP adn a Move to a “Long-range spacecraft” Office
TOKYO - May 30, 2024 – Kojima Productions unveiled a detailed roadmap for its future during the ”Beyond the strand” livestream event today, outlining plans to expand beyond video games into film, anime, comics, novels, and music, alongside the advancement of new intellectual property. The studio,founded December 12,2016,also revealed its intention to physically relocate to a new office designed as a “long-range spacecraft,” symbolizing its ambition to venture into uncharted creative territory.
The presentation detailed a two-phase strategy. The first phase, spanning 2016-2019, focused on establishing the studio and launching Death Stranding, alongside building connections with fans through merchandising and events.The current second phase (2019-2025, extending to 2030) centers on the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach – slated for 2025 – and broadening the Death Stranding universe with Death Stranding: Director’s Cut.
Kojima Productions intends to enhance its existing IP and create new ones, aiming to “transcend the boundaries between film and games.” Recent projects announced include OD (2023) and Physint (2024). The studio also highlighted key milestones including the 2020 BAFTA Games Fellowship Award, a 2022 partnership with Xbox Game Studios, and the completion of its new office in 2022.
