Tecsalud Symposium Highlights Advances in Brain Tumor Treatment Through Imaging & Collaborative Tumor Boards
Monterrey, Mexico - Cutting-edge neuroimaging techniques and a multidisciplinary approach to treatment planning were central themes at TecsaludS recent International symposium: Advances and Challenges in Neurosurgery. Experts showcased how innovation and collaboration are improving outcomes for patients with complex neurological conditions, especially brain tumors.
Dr. Azalea Garza Báez of Neuroimagen emphasized the role of advanced imaging, specifically Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS), in enhancing the safety and precision of central nervous system interventions. MRS, a non-invasive technique, identifies chemical changes in the brain, aiding both diagnosis and monitoring of neurological pathologies like brain tumors and neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Garza illustrated the technique’s impact with a case study: “Thanks to the ERM,we identify features compatible with a type of malignant brain tumor, allowing us to adjust the treatment to the real needs of the patient.”
complementing these technological advancements,Dr. Enrique Caro presented the benefits of tumor boards – collaborative sessions where specialists from diverse fields analyze complex cases and determine optimal treatment strategies. According to Dr. Caro, these sessions “facilitate clinical decision-making, streamline intervention times, and raise treatment quality.” Data presented at the symposium revealed that therapeutic plans are altered after tumor board discussion in 60% of cases, leading to better patient results and increased survival rates.
Tecsalud’s implementation of tumor boards has fostered a strong institutional identity and increased patient confidence, ultimately leading to the establishment of the Cerebral Tumor Center, offering comprehensive and specialized care. The symposium underscored tecsalud’s commitment to patient-centered care, innovation, and collaboration in neurosurgery, positioning the institution as a regional leader in the field.
