Drone Strike Hits crimea Sanatorium, Raising Questions About High-Profile Guests
Foros, Crimea – A Ukrainian drone attack on the Sanatorium of Foros in Crimea on September 22nd killed three people and injured sixteen, according to Sergei Akisonov, the head of the Russian-installed local governance. The strike has sparked speculation about the presence of “very notable guests” at the resort, given its proximity to state dachas historically used by the political elite.
Akisonov reported damage to several buildings within the sanatorium complex, including a school, and a fire ignited in dry grass near Yalta due to falling debris. The Russian defense Ministry claims the drones were armed with “highly explosive warheads” and targeted civilian areas in a vacation region with no military facilities. They assert 114 Ukrainian drones were destroyed over Russian regions and Crimea overnight, with significant numbers downed over Rostov, Krasnodar, Belgorod, and Astrakhan regions.
Ukrainian officials have not yet commented on the strike.Telegram channels suggest the Foros Hall restaurant, targeted in the attack, was closed Sunday for a special event, fueling theories about the potential presence of high-ranking individuals. The sanatorium area houses four state dachas frequented by political figures as the Soviet era.
The attack comes amid continued reciprocal strikes between Russia and Ukraine. Elsewhere on September 22nd, Russian forces reportedly dropped five air bombs on Zaporijjia, targeting civilian and industrial infrastructure, according to regional military administration head Ivan Fedorov. Drone strikes in the Kyiv region caused fires in residential homes, injuring one person, while Soumy saw damage to industrial facilities and an educational building, also resulting in one injury. A private house was destroyed in the Dnipro region, with no reported casualties.
