League of Women Voters Offers Civic Engagement Internship for Bay Area Students
BERKELEY,CA - The League of Women Voters of Berkeley,Albany,and Emeryville (LWVBAE) is now accepting applications for the Helene Lecar Civic Engagement Internship,a unique program designed to immerse students in the workings of local government and critical policy issues. The internship, launching for 2026, offers hands-on experience within a major national organization dedicated to protecting democratic freedoms and advocating for informed public policy.
The LWVBAE internship is geared towards students passionate about exploring sociological and political issues and understanding how civil society operates. Interns will have the opportunity to specialize in areas including communications, health care, diversity, equity, and inclusion, criminal justice/legal system issues, climate change mitigation, and inclusive community action. The program boasts connections to prominent figures, including former LWVBAE president and current Berkeley Mayor Adena Ishii, and Congresswoman Lateefah Simon.
As an intern with the League,students will contribute to the organization’s advocacy efforts and gain valuable experience that can open doors to future opportunities,including networking with former White House members.
Applications are due September 30th, with one or two positions available beginning in the fall. Interested students are encouraged to apply today.
