Brasília – Institutions can now register to participate in a program offering 4,000 scholarships for medical residencies in priority areas for Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS). Registration is open until October 20th via sigresidencias.saude.gov.br.
The Ministry of Health has launched two calls for applications. The first provides 3,000 scholarships for medical residencies in anesthesiology, radiology, and cancer surgery.A second call offers 1,000 scholarships for residencies in professional health areas, including women’s health care, mental health care, and obstetric nursing.
Eligible institutions to request adhesion include federal universities, hospitals linked to the Ministries of Health and Education, private non-profit organizations, and public bodies and institutions at the municipal, state, and district levels.
Priority for scholarship allocation will be given to states within the Legal Amazon region – Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima, Mato Grosso, Maranhão, and Tocantins – aiming to reduce regional healthcare disparities and improve access to quality care.
This offering of 4,000 scholarships represents the largest investment by the ministry of Health in residency programs in the last decade. The ministry will invest $1.8 billion in residency programs in 2025, a 32% increase compared to 2023.
