Jimmy Gressier Eyes Historic Double as World Athletics Championships Conclude in Tokyo
TOKYO - Jimmy Gressier seeks too cement his place in athletics history today, targeting a rare 10,000m/5,000m double at the World Championships in Tokyo. Following his surprise victory in the 10,000 meters last weekend, Gressier will compete in the 5,000 meter final at 12:50 p.m.French time. Only Mo Farah and Kenenisa Bekele have previously achieved this feat at the World Championships.
The final day of competition also saw the United States relay team win their heat in the 9th corridor, securing a place in the final with a time of 2 minutes 58 seconds 48, ahead of Kenya (3:00.39).
Gressier’s coach, Adrien Taouji, believes his athlete will be competitive for a podium finish in the 5,000m. The championships conclude after a week of compelling competition, culminating in gressier’s attempt to join an exclusive club of distance running legends.
