A shooting at a country club in Nashua, New Hampshire, hosting a wedding party left one man dead and several others injured Saturday night. Authorities responded to 911 calls reporting gunshots at the Sky Meadow Country Club, initiating an investigation into the incident.
The shooting occurred in a city consistently ranked among America’s moast liveable, raising shock and questions about the escalation of gun violence even in traditionally safe communities. Nashua, approximately 45 miles northwest of Boston, was twice named the best place to live in the US by Money magazine and ranked seventh by Forbes.The incident underscores the pervasive reach of gun violence and its potential to disrupt even celebratory events.
According to peter Hinkley, senior assistant attorney general of new Hampshire, “people don’t think things like this happen on a Saturday night in Nashua in New Hampshire.”
Investigators determined a single adult male entered the club and discharged a firearm, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella and Nashua Police Department Chief Kevin Rourke released a joint statement confirming the details.
“This evening officers responded to 911 calls from the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua for reports of gunshots,” the statement read. “From investigation,a single adult male entered the club and fired several gunshots. One adult male was shot and killed, and several other people were wounded.”
