Apple’s recent claim that the iPhone Air is it’s most durable iPhone ever has been put to the test – and it appears to be true. The tech world eagerly awaited the results of the rigorous hands-on examination from popular YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, and the verdict is in: the iPhone Air is impressively resilient.

The test, renowned for its thoroughness, subjected the iPhone Air to a series of challenges, starting with a bend test. Despite significant force applied by hand, the phone remarkably resisted breaking, instead flexing under pressure and returning to its original shape. This impressive flexibility speaks volumes about the internal structural engineering.
But the durability doesn’t stop there. The iPhone Air’s screen, protected by the second generation of Apple’s Ceramic Shield cover glass, demonstrated a significant leap in scratch resistance. Traditionally, smartphone glass scratches at levels 5 or 6 on the hardness scale (with sapphire registering a 9). Previous iPhone models typically showed scratches at level 6. Though, the new Ceramic Shield 2 exhibited virtually no marks at level 6, and only minor, superficial scratches at level 7.
This betterment suggests a ample increase in long-term screen durability, backing up Apple’s claim of up to 3x better scratch resistance. While the test results are encouraging, a protective case – such as the new Apple Clear Case – remains a wise investment for added peace of mind.
Even attempts to physically break the iPhone Air proved difficult. After failing to bend the phone with manual force, JerryRigEverything employed a specialized machine to determine its breaking point. The iPhone Air withstood an amazing 215 lbs
