Multiple Reports of Disorderly Conduct Keep Bergen Police Busy
Bergen police responded to several reports of disturbances and alleged fights in the city centre late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. A man in his 50s was initially arrested following an incident where violence was directed towards two individuals. According to Western Police district operations manager Dan Erik Johannessen, none of those involved sustained serious injuries, but the arrested man is also facing charges related to resisting police.
Approximately half an hour after the initial report from Neumanns gate, police where dispatched to the Zacharias bridge due to reports of disorderly conduct. Johannessen stated a man in his 20s was taken into custody after becoming “very drunk and aggressive” when denied entry to a nightclub. The man allegedly kicked and struck security guards, and remained uncooperative even after police arrived.
Further incidents were reported at the party square around 11:30 PM, where a man in his 20s was arrested for making threats against another man, with Johannessen noting the two individuals were not known to each other. On-duty lawyer Eli Andrea Skaar confirmed that two individuals are currently in custody regarding threats, with one incident occurring “in the center of Bergen.” A case has not yet been formally opened for the second threat allegation.
police also received a report of a fight at Festplassen at 1:41 AM. operations manager Frode Kolltveit described the situation as tough to clarify. “There was a person lying on the ground and should have been beaten several times, and there must have been about six involved people,” he said. An ambulance was dispatched, but those involved had already dispersed by the time police arrived.
“the patrol got control of those who ran, and they said it was all just nonsense,” Kolltveit explained. “We did not get in touch with either insulted or suspected. The ambulance also did not bring anyone.” He characterized the incident as a typical weekend assignment, stating, ”Fighting is reported, and then they sprinkle. Fortunately, there was little damage, and more amp. There will be no case out of this.”
police received a notification regarding a potential altercation in the Laundry River area, with reports suggesting a fight between two groups of individuals, estimated at 6-7 people in one group and an unspecified number in the other. However, upon arrival, the groups were in the process of leaving. Kolltveit confirmed violence was reported, but no injuries were documented. “It has probably boiled away in little and nothing,” he concluded.
