Otway Woman Faces Charges in Illegal Weight Loss Pill Operation
OTWAY, OH - A Scioto County woman was arrested Thursday, September 18th, following a multi-agency investigation into the sale of unapproved weight loss drugs obtained through the black market.
The Southern Ohio Organized and Major Crimes Task Force led the operation, coordinating with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy, Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Pike County Prosecutor’s Office, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, Waverly Police Department, and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Authorities executed search warrants at multiple locations in Scioto and Pike Counties.
investigators determined the operation involved distributing drugs marketed as weight-loss medications that were not approved by the food and Drug Management (FDA). These substances are considered dangerous due to their unknown ingredients and potential health risks. Officials believe the scheme was motivated by significant financial gain and recklessly endangered public health.
Haley Borders, of Otway, was arrested at her residence on warrants related to indictments filed in Pike County. Evidence relevant to the investigation was collected during the searches.
The Task Force acknowledged the assistance of the Ohio department of Rehabilitation and Correction, which provided two K9 units to aid in the property searches.
The investigation is ongoing, and evidence will be presented to prosecutors in both Scioto and Pike Counties for potential additional charges.
