Hormone Therapy Use Surges Among Women, Offering Relief from Menopause Symptoms
Teh use of hormone therapy among women experiencing the transition is rapidly increasing, according to new data obtained by the podcast “De Dag” from the Pharmaceutic Key figures Foundation. Figures show a importent rise from 45,000 women aged 40-60 utilizing hormone medication in 2018, to 129,000 in 2024.
This increase coincides with a growing openness and improved treatment for women navigating menopause.A recent episode of “De Dag” featured the experiences of five women who have turned to hormone therapy, highlighting the often-challenging journey of finding the correct dosage and a supportive healthcare practitioner. Despite these hurdles, many report a ample reduction in debilitating symptoms.
The prevalence of menopausal symptoms is significant, with approximately 80% of women experiencing challenges ranging from hot flashes and brain fog to night sweats and joint pain.
Gynecologist and Chairman of the Dutch Menopause Society,Femi Janse, views the rising use of hormone therapy as a positive progress. “It indicates that women are being seen and treated better,” Janse stated. She attributes the shift to a re-evaluation of hormone therapy following a study conducted years ago that initially fostered negative perceptions.
