Skate. Sequel Faces Mixed Reception After 15-year Wait
After a 15-year wait, the skate. sequel has finally arrived, but the launch hasn’t been universally celebrated. Despite generating notable hype, the game currently holds “mixed” reviews on Steam, with only 47% of over 6,500 reviews expressing positive feedback. Though, the game is simultaneously gaining traction and generating viral content on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter).
The original skate. series garnered a dedicated fanbase, and anticipation for a continuation had been building for over a decade. The new iteration, available for free in a basic version,is drawing criticism for a perceived lack of content compared to its predecessors. players are lamenting the absence of features like Hall of Meat, Game of Skate, a traditional plot with professional skaters, and an offline mode. Concerns over excessive micropayments are also prevalent.
Players specifically cite the graphics as being reminiscent of Fortnite, and many feel the game is “devoid of some atmosphere and climate, but with micropayments, and this is just the beginning of the disadvantages.” One reviewer stated, “In addition to control, all other elements of the previous titles have been removed… In return, we got a soulless money jump called a functional store in a 7-gigabyte beta version.” Despite these criticisms, some acknowledge the core skateboarding mechanics are enjoyable, noting, “The ride itself is great… The problem is all the rest.”
Beyond Steam, users on X are sharing humorous videos highlighting the game’s quirks, including the ability to dismount and navigate the map on foot.
The developers plan to address community concerns through paid seasons, with the first season scheduled to launch on October 7, 2025. Deluxe Founder packages are currently available for PLN 219.90, with a standard Founder package priced at PLN 109.90. skate. requires a controller for gameplay and currently does not offer a Polish language version.
