Lebanese Army Scores Massive Drug Bust, Signals Intensified Crackdown on Trafficking
Beirut, Lebanon – the Lebanese army announced Wednesday the seizure of a staggering 64 million pills and a notable quantity of hashish in the Bekaa region, marking one of the largest drug hauls in Lebanese history. The operation, conducted by the army’s intelligence directorate with support from army units, targeted a major drug manufacturing facility and represents a significant escalation in the country’s fight against narcotics trafficking.
According to an official army statement, the raid followed a period of intensive monitoring of drug promotion gangs operating in the Bekaa Valley. Authorities have handed over the seized drugs and are actively pursuing the arrest of those involved in the operation.
The bust comes on the heels of a seperate, prosperous operation announced Monday by Interior Minister Ahmed Al-Hajjar. That operation led to the dismantling of an international smuggling network, the arrest of its leader, and the seizure of 6.5 million Captagon pills and 700 kilograms of hashish destined for Saudi Arabia via the beirut port.
