KSRTC Thodupuzha Lift Construction Halted by Unexpected Structural Obstruction
Thodupuzha, Idukki: Construction of a lift at the KSRTC Thodupuzha depot has been unexpectedly stalled after the revelation of a beam obstructing the planned installation. The project, initiated four years ago at a cost of ₹16 crore, faced further complications when contractors resolute the beam may require demolition to proceed with the lift’s construction.
Initial plans for the depot included obtaining fire and Safety certification and completing the lift installation. Tho, the unexpected presence of the beam – and questions surrounding its necessity – has raised concerns about whether prior construction adhered to approved building plans. Authorities at the depot have stated they are seeking clarification from the Chief Engineer’s office in Thiruvananthapuram regarding the beam’s origins and whether its removal is permissible. the situation has prompted scrutiny of the depot’s 13 contractors, with security deposits potentially at risk.
