Greenview, AB – The Municipal District of Greenview has officially proclaimed September 15-21, 2025, as Rail Safety Week, following a unanimous vote at the September 9, 2025 regular Council Meeting. The proclamation underscores the region’s commitment to public safety and awareness surrounding railway crossings and rail property.
this declaration comes in support of the national Rail Safety Week initiative, aimed at reducing preventable deaths, injuries, and damage resulting from incidents involving trains and citizens. The move was prompted by a request from CN, recognizing the importance of collaborative efforts to enhance rail safety awareness within communities like Greenview.
The resolution acknowledges the critical role of Operation Lifesaver, a public/private partnership dedicated to promoting rail safety through education and collaboration with the public, rail industry, governments, and police services. It highlights the public interest in raising awareness about the dangers of disregarding safety warnings at level crossings and trespassing on rail property.
Councillor Christine Schlief moved the motion – 25.425 – which was carried by Council, formally resolving to support National Rail Safety week from September 15 to 21, 2025. The MD of Greenview’s support aims to contribute to ongoing efforts to save lives and prevent injuries within the municipality and beyond.
