Cigarette Discarded in Flowerpot Sparks Fire at Billings Four-Plex
BILLINGS, MT - A fire ripped thru a four-plex home in Billings early Friday morning, causing significant damage after a cigarette was improperly discarded in a flowerpot. The billings Fire Department responded to the blaze shortly after midnight on the 500 block of howard Avenue.
The incident underscores the ongoing dangers of smoking materials and the potential for preventable fires, notably in multi-unit dwellings. While no injuries were reported, the fire displaced residents and caused extensive damage, highlighting the importance of responsible smoking practices and fire safety awareness.
According to a department release, the fire originated on a second-floor outside deck. Two suites on the second floor sustained significant fire damage. Crews working to extinguish the blaze also reported water damage to two apartments on the lower level.
As of Friday morning, the Billings Fire Department has not reported any injuries related to the incident. The cause of the fire has been officially persistent to be a discarded cigarette in a flowerpot.
