Madrid, Spain – One man is dead and 25 people were injured following a powerful explosion in Madrid on Saturday afternoon, emergency services reported Sunday.
The explosion occurred around 3:00 PM on the ground floor of a three-story building,causing meaningful damage to a cafeteria,a store,and surrounding properties. Authorities discovered the body of a man during a search operation utilizing tracker dogs.
Firefighters suspect a gas leak was the cause of the blast,though police are continuing to investigate. Fire Chief Javier Romero stated that four individuals were rescued from the rubble following the explosion.
The incident is prompting renewed scrutiny of gas safety regulations in the city, as investigators work to determine the source of the leak and prevent future occurrences. The injured have been transported to local hospitals for treatment.
