Hochsteiermark Classic Rally Draws Over 60 Vintage Cars to Mariazell
MARIAZELL, Austria - The annual Hochsteiermark Classic car rally concluded Sunday, September 14th, 2025, after a weekend of competition showcasing over 60 classic vehicles in and around Mariazell. The event featured rare automobiles, many lacking modern driving aids like ABS or electronic stability control, attracting enthusiasts and spectators alike.
The rally, held annually on the second weekend of September, challenges participants to achieve precise target times and navigate a 600-kilometer route detailed in a 100-page roadbook. Passengers act as navigators, guiding drivers through checkpoints to verify adherence to the course.This year’s route included a prominent stop at Mariazeller Hauptplatz and a special test at the Mariazell airfield.
On Saturday, vehicles arrived at Mariazeller Hauptplatz, timed with precision to the hundredth of a second using a light barrier system. an information brochure listing all participants and their vehicles was distributed, and commentary provided insights into the history of each car.
The Hochsteiermark Classic is not simply a display of vintage automobiles; it’s a test of driving skill and navigational accuracy,incorporating challenges like parking maneuvers and slalom courses.
