Geely’s Starship 6: A New Era of Hybrid Efficiency?
September 14,2025 – For years,Chinese automakers have faced criticism regarding engine efficiency compared to established European,Japanese, and American manufacturers. however, Geely is challenging that narrative with the launch of its new Galaxy Starship 6, a plug-in hybrid boasting what the company claims is the lowest fuel consumption in the world. This marks a significant step forward, showcasing china’s rapid advancements in hybrid technology and potentially redefining industry standards.
The Starship 6 is the first vehicle to feature geely’s state-of-the-art ”Thor EM-I” plug-in hybrid system. While the Toyota Yaris currently holds the title for lowest fuel consumption among combustion (hybrid) vehicles in Spain – achieving 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers under the WLTP protocol – Geely is aiming to shatter that record.
Record-Breaking fuel Economy – with a Caveat
Geely states the Starship 6 achieves an astonishing 2 liters per 100 kilometers. However, this figure is based on the Chinese CLTC homologation cycle, widely recognized as being more lenient then the European WLTP standard. Despite this difference, the number is remarkably low, leading Geely to project a combined cycle range of 2,100 kilometers.
Family-Friendly design & Competitive Pricing
Positioned within the mid-size family car segment, the Galaxy Starship 6 measures 4,806 meters in length, 1,886 meters in width, and 1.49 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,756 meters. Its curb weight ranges from 1,505 to 1,580 kilograms, depending on the battery option.
The Starship 6 combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor, powered by either an 8.5 kWh or 17 kWh LFP battery supplied by Calb-tech. The larger battery provides an approved electric range of up to 125 kilometers (CLTC).
Perhaps most impressively, Geely is positioning the Starship 6 as an affordable option, with a price tag starting under 15,000 euros.

The Future of Hybrid Technology?
The Geely Galaxy Starship 6 represents a bold statement from a Chinese automaker. While the CLTC figures require careful consideration, the vehicle’s potential for remarkable fuel efficiency, combined with its family-friendly design and competitive price point, could disrupt the hybrid market and accelerate the adoption of plug-in hybrid technology globally.
