Man Fatally Stabbed in Downey; Ambulance Stolen During Emergency Response

Downey, CA – A tragic incident unfolded in Downey, california, Saturday morning as a man was stabbed to death in front of the Downey Library. The situation escalated further when an ambulance responding to the emergency was stolen, prompting a police chase into neighboring Alhambra.
Details of the Stabbing
According to Downey Police Department Lieutenant Dustin Doyle, the stabbing occurred at approximately 9:35 a.m. near the library located at 11121 Brookshire Ave. paramedics from the Downey Fire Department arrived on the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.
Witnesses reported that the suspect fled in the direction of Downey High School, triggering a swift response from law enforcement. Both the high school and the library were placed on lockdown as officers conducted a search for the individual. A 23-year-old man, believed to be a transient, was subsequently taken into custody at Downey High School.
Ambulance Theft and Pursuit
In a separate and unrelated incident occurring while emergency personnel were attending to the stabbing victim, a 52-year-old man from Los Angeles stole a Downey Fire Department ambulance parked at the scene. Lieutenant Doyle confirmed that this suspect was not connected to the homicide investigation.
Downey police officers initiated a pursuit of the stolen ambulance, which ultimately ended in Alhambra when the suspect crashed the vehicle into a parked car. The suspect was apprehended at the scene of the crash.
