Man Killed, Ambulance Stolen: Downey Homicide Investigation

Man ‍Fatally Stabbed in Downey; Ambulance Stolen During​ Emergency Response

Downey, CA – A tragic incident‍ unfolded in Downey, california, Saturday morning ‍as a man was stabbed to death in front of the Downey Library. The situation escalated further when an ambulance⁢ responding​ to ⁣the emergency was​ stolen, prompting a police chase into ‍neighboring ‌Alhambra.

Details of the ⁢Stabbing

According to Downey Police ⁣Department Lieutenant Dustin Doyle, the stabbing occurred at approximately 9:35 a.m. near the library ‌located at 11121 Brookshire Ave. paramedics from ‍the Downey Fire Department arrived on the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the⁢ identity of the deceased.

Witnesses reported that the suspect fled in the direction of Downey High School, triggering a swift response‍ from ⁣law enforcement. Both ⁢the high school and the library were placed on lockdown as officers conducted a search for the‍ individual. A 23-year-old man, believed to be⁤ a transient, was subsequently taken into custody at Downey ​High School.

Ambulance Theft and Pursuit

In a separate and unrelated incident occurring while emergency personnel were attending to the stabbing victim, a 52-year-old man from Los Angeles stole a Downey ‌Fire Department ambulance parked at the scene. Lieutenant Doyle confirmed that this suspect‍ was not connected to the homicide investigation.

Downey police officers initiated a pursuit of the stolen ambulance, which ultimately ended in Alhambra⁢ when the suspect crashed the vehicle into a parked car. The suspect was apprehended at the scene of the crash.

Ongoing Investigations
