DTI: Philippine Aviation School To Open Unit in cambodia
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - A Filipino-owned aviation school will soon open in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, offering a range of degree adn certificate programs in aviation, the Department of trade and industry (DTI) announced Thursday. The initiative stems from a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between WCC Aeronautical and Technological College and Cambodia’s Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (OCIC) during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s state visit to Phnom Penh, September 7-9.
The WCC AeroTech University in Phnom Penh will provide courses in aircraft maintenance technology, avionics, airline operations management, aeronautical engineering, and a certificate flight attendant program. This expansion marks a important step in the President’s efforts to create more opportunities for Filipino professionals internationally and position the Philippines as a regional hub for skills and innovation.
“When our schools and professionals bring their knowledge to international markets, they raise the profile of the Philippines as a hub for skills and innovation. This means more demand for Filipino educators, engineers, and service providers-not only boosting jobs but also inspiring pride in our people’s capabilities,” said Trade and Industry Secretary Cristina Roque in a statement.
WCC President Raymond Patrick Guico hailed the partnership as a milestone for Philippine higher education, affirming the school’s commitment to replicating its prosperous domestic programs in Cambodia.
“Working with WCC allows us to open doors for Cambodian youth to access top-quality aviation training while connecting with Filipino professionals who have a proven track record in the industry,” stated OCIC Vice President Thierry Tea, emphasizing the MOU’s alignment with OCIC’s human capital progress goals.(PNA)
