“peace and Snake 2” Star Asma Jalal faces Backlash Over Character’s Portrayal
Cairo, Egypt – Actress Asma Jalal is facing significant public criticism for her role in the newly released film “Peace and Snake 2,” with many viewers expressing disapproval of her character and on-screen appearance as revealed in the film’s trailer. The controversy centers on Jalal’s portrayal of “Malik,” a character involved in a complex romantic storyline with Amr Youssef’s “Ahmed Al-Alfi.”
The online response has been largely negative, with comments ranging from disappointment to outright condemnation. Viewers have voiced concerns over the character’s depiction, with some stating, “We would love you,” while others criticized Jalal’s career choices, questioning whether she is “taking this path if weakened talent and personality.” Several comments specifically referenced Jalal’s previous roles, with one user lamenting, “I miss her veiled,” and another asking, “Where is Kinda Alloush from watching de?” A especially strong sentiment emerged with the declaration, “Suzy is the one who is the values and principles of society,” seemingly referencing a perceived contrast between Jalal’s current role and more traditionally conservative figures.
“Peace and Snake 2,” directed by Tariq Al-Arian and produced by Musa Issa, also stars Dhafer Al-Abidin, majed Al-Masry, Hatem Salah, Fadwa Abed, and features a special appearance by Sawsan Badr. The film, written by Ahmed Hosni, presents a new narrative separate from the original “Peace and Snake” released 24 years prior. The current controversy highlights the ongoing debate surrounding portrayals of women in Egyptian cinema and the expectations placed upon public figures regarding societal values.
