Douglas County Community Center Offers Free Tech Support to Seniors
GARDNERVILLE, NV – The Douglas County Community and Senior Center is providing free technology assistance to seniors with classes held every first and third Friday of the month at 1 p.m. in the Carson Valley Health Room.
Initiated earlier this year by center employees Gabe Sorenson and Staci Robertson, the classes aim to bridge the digital divide and empower seniors to navigate an increasingly technological world. Sessions begin with a brief presentation on a relevant topic, followed by a question-and-answer period and individualized help with devices – both Android and Apple.
Recent topics have ranged from basic internet understanding to advanced cybersecurity and scam avoidance. Organizers tailor content based on the specific needs and interests expressed by attendees.
Last Friday, Sorenson led a session on streaming services before focusing on cybersecurity, drawing on his prior experience assisting with similar issues during his time with a California police department.
“Usually, two to three volunteers are on hand to offer additional support,” the center noted.
the Douglas County Community and Senior Center is located at 1329 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. Residents with questions are encouraged to call 775-782-5500.
