SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Anthropic has equipped‌ its Claude AI chatbot with a long-awaited memory function, enabling it⁤ to recall details from previous conversations and deliver more relevant, personalized responses. The update, announced today, allows Claude to remember user preferences, project context, and key priorities, representing a important step forward in AI chatbot usability ⁤and effectiveness.

This new‍ capability addresses a common limitation of many AI models – their stateless nature, requiring users to repeatedly provide ⁢background information.Claude’s memory ⁢operates on a per-project ⁢basis, creating separate memory modules for distinct tasks like product launches or customer support, ensuring data remains compartmentalized. The feature is entirely optional, giving users control over data retention.

According to ‍Anthropic, the memory function is ‍designed⁤ to be especially useful in professional settings, helping Claude retain “project details, customer information and team processes.” Users have full visibility and control over stored memories, with the ability to review, adjust, and explicitly instruct Claude on what to remember or forget – a functionality similar to that found in competing models like ChatGPT.

Alongside the memory feature, Anthropic has⁢ also‍ introduced an “incognito” mode for confidential brainstorming‍ or ⁢discussions unrelated to ongoing projects. Chats conducted in incognito mode are not saved to history or added to Claude’s memory.

The rollout of the memory function is currently limited ⁢to ⁤team and enterprise subscribers, with incognito chat available to all users. Anthropic states the phased ⁢implementation is intended to ensure ⁤safety and reliability as the‌ feature scales.
