New Era Begins: Southwest Wrestling club Launches to Support Arizona and Regional Athletes
TEMPE, AZ – September 11, 2025 - A new organization dedicated to elevating wrestling in Arizona and the Southwest has officially launched. The Southwest Wrestling Club (SWWC),a for-profit entity developed in collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU) and aligned with USA Wrestling guidelines, aims to provide comprehensive support for wrestlers at all levels.
SWWC evolved from a board-led initiative initially created to bolster Sun Devil Wrestling. Recognizing the program’s growing reach – with approximately 17 percent of donations now originating outside of Arizona – leadership restructured to create a scalable, NCAA-compliant model for long-term sustainability and increased resources.
“When Sunkist Wrestling stepped away, it left a huge void in our community. What Art Martori built was legendary, and Southwest Wrestling Club exists to honor and build on that legacy. I’ve assembled an exceptional team of strategic thinkers and leaders, bringing together deep wrestling roots and proven business expertise. Together, we are committed to building something special that elevates wrestling in Arizona and across the Southwest,” said Ken McElroy, Co-Founder, Southwest Wrestling Club.
The club plans to establish a Regional Training Center focused on long-term athlete advancement and regional impact, supporting wrestlers as they pursue success at the NCAA, World, and Olympic levels.
“Our goal is simple, to help our young men reach their full human potential on their journey to becoming NCAA, World, and Olympic champions. With the backing of southwest Wrestling Club, we now have the tools to support athletes not just during their time at ASU, but throughout their olympic journeys. A big thank you to ASU, Ken, willie, and Dave and those that are supporting our mission,” stated Zeke Jones, Head Coach, ASU Wrestling.
Beyond elite training, SWWC will offer personalized mentorship and career resources to prepare athletes for life beyond competition.
“Its a place where athletes grow beyond the mat. A culture committed to making wrestlers feel supported, valued, and prepared to lead in whatever path they choose, on and off the mat,” added David Kiley, Director, Southwest Wrestling Club.
The SWWC is led by McElroy, Willie Pyette, and Kiley, combining business acumen with deep wrestling experience. Further information is available at www.swwrestlingclub.com.
