RIGA, LATVIA – Former Latvian basketball player Kristaps Walter revealed on a recent VEF Riga podcast his lingering frustration over an unreturned greeting from Arthur Žagars at a bar in Andrejosta last year.
Walter expressed feeling offended by Žagars’ lack of acknowledgement, stating, “Žagarello, I have offended me that I have said a harsher word. In general, I hadn’t said anything. He did not welcome me… He came next to me and I said ‘Hi!’ but did not help in return.” He attributed the slight to comments he’d made regarding Kristaps Porziņģis. “I hadn’t said a lot of bad words about Jagar before, but he didn’t turn and even greeted me. Well, imagine if I did not greet Robert Stelmaher,Raimonds Miglinieks,Show – that’s not right.”
Walter went on to say he considered a more direct approach. “I had to put him from behind at the back of his back, ‘Eu, the young, what do you do?’ Then he would be right away, you know how… actually beef I regret.”
The revelation comes after Walter recently faced criticism for his commentary on the Latvian national basketball team’s performance at the European championship, including referring to Lithuania as “builders” prior to their 1/8 final match – a remark reportedly used as motivation by the Lithuanian team.
