ITTF President & Advisory Commission Chair Discuss Future Marketing Strategy
Discussions are well underway to establish a new Marketing Committee for the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), following a decision made at the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM). ITTF President Petra Sörling recently met with HRH Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Nasser Al Saud, President of the Saudi Table Tennis Federation and Chair of the ITTF PresidentS Advisory Commission, to focus on the Federation’s future marketing strategy.
The meeting, occurring just one month after Prince Mohammed’s appointment, allowed him to present his initial strategic work. This work centers on the concept of converting table tennis viewers into active participants. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including strengthening participation pathways and positioning table tennis as a global lifestyle choice.
Prince Mohammed highlighted the sport’s inherent strengths – its inclusivity, year-round accessibility, and minimal space requirements – and explored opportunities to increase visibility, deepen audience engagement, and expand market presence. He shared research detailing the scale of the sport’s global audience and the potential to translate viewership into greater participation, including market valuation data and comparisons to other racket sports. His presentation also emphasized the potential of innovative campaigns and partnerships to modernize the sport’s image and connect with new communities.
“These discussions are an meaningful first step in building the framework for our future Marketing Committee,” stated President Sörling. ”Our members made their voices heard at the AGM, and now we are moving forward by listening, reflecting, and preparing. I am grateful to Prince Mohammed for his vision, fresh outlook, and commitment to this process, which will benefit the entire global table tennis family.”
The Advisory Commission will continue gathering input from across the ITTF family in the coming months. Mr. Cyrus Muwanga, President of the Uganda Table Tennis Association – representing the Member Association that originally proposed the Marketing Committee – will also be involved to ensure their perspective is integrated into the Commission’s work. The resulting recommendations will serve as the foundation for the new Marketing Committee, which is scheduled to become a permanent ITTF body on January 1, 2026.
