UTC Students Immerse Themselves in Indian Culture on Transformative Overseas Trip
DELHI, INDIA – Four University of Tennessee at Chattanooga students recently returned from a life-changing excursion to India, where they explored the nation’s rich history and engaged with it’s vibrant culture. The trip, led by Dr. Jaclyn Michael, provided an immersive experience beyond the classroom, fostering a deeper understanding of India’s complexities and its people.
The overseas excursion offered Donovan Scott, Brandon pruitt, Emma Ward, and thomas lynberg a unique opportunity to connect with a world vastly different from their own. The group’s travels included a visit to the iconic Red Fort, a historic landmark that served as a powerful symbol of Mughal power. Standing before the fort, the students reflected on the layers of history embedded within its walls. “It was amazing to stand in a place that has witnessed so much change and played such a important role in India’s past,” said dr. Michael, who provided the photograph of the group at the Red Fort.
The excursion wasn’t limited to ancient sites. Students also had the chance to interact with local communities, gaining firsthand insights into contemporary Indian life. This direct engagement allowed them to move beyond textbook knowledge and develop a nuanced recognition for the challenges and triumphs of everyday Indians. The trip aimed to foster empathy and a broader worldview, equipping these UTC students with invaluable perspectives as they embark on their future careers.
