Asia cup Buzz Centers on India–Pakistan Clash Despite Player Fatigue & UAE Challenge
Dubai,UAE – September 9,2025 – As the Asia Cup officially commenced with a press conference featuring captains and key players,the overwhelming focus remains on the potential for another high-stakes showdown between India and Pakistan,overshadowing concerns about player fatigue and the rising competitiveness of teams like the United Arab Emirates.Sri Lankan batter Charith Asalanka openly admitted to feeling “sleepy” ahead of the tournament, citing a demanding schedule of two ODIs and three T20Is recently concluded in Zimbabwe, with their last match ending Sunday. “Playing back to back matches from Zimbabwe to now is hard.I wish I had a couple of days off. The conditions are tough too here, and it will be hot. I am sleepy right now,” Asalanka stated, while affirming his team’s preparedness: “We are well prepared and want to hit the ground running.”
Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan acknowledged logistical challenges,specifically the travel between Dubai and Abu Dhabi for their opening match against Hong Kong. “I don’t think it’s ideal to play a game in Abu Dhabi and stay in Dubai. But as a cricketer,you have accept it,” he saeid,emphasizing the need for mental fortitude and professionalism. He recounted instances of playing instantly after long-haul flights, stressing the importance of giving “100%.”
Despite thes challenges, and the emergence of the UAE as a formidable opponent – having recently given Pakistan and afghanistan a competitive series – Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav expressed excitement about facing the hosts. “They (the UAE) are playing an exciting brand. They played a tournament recently, they came close… I hope they do (cross the line) in the Asia Cup,” Yadav commented.He also affirmed his team’s readiness: ”We are excited to play them. We have got few practice sessions. it feels good. It’s a good challenge playing the best teams in this Asia Cup.”
UAE Skipper Muhammad Waseem echoed his team’s determination, stating, “We have played good cricket recently. We have worked hard. We will try to play our best cricket that day, be it Pakistan or India.”
Adding to the pre-tournament intrigue, Yadav playfully deflected a question regarding the potential inclusion of Sanju Samson in the playing eleven, responding in Hindi, “Aapko main playing XI message karta hoon (I will message you the playing XI),” and concluding in English, “We are taking good care of him. Don’t worry, we will make the right decision tomorrow.”
