NEWARK, N.J. – Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande where among the top winners at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday night, while Busta Rhymes received the Video Vanguard Award and a moving tribute was paid to Ozzy Osbourne. The ceremony, broadcast by CBS for the first time, showcased a night of energetic performances and celebrated milestones in music video history.

Lady Gaga took home the award for Artist of the Year, leaving Taylor Swift and Beyoncé tied with 30 VMAs each. Ariana Grande won Best Collaboration for “Save My Tongue” with Tate McRae.

Busta Rhymes’ Video Vanguard award recognized his decades-long impact on music videos, featuring a medley of his iconic hits. The award celebrates artists who have significantly influenced the art of the music video medium.

The show also included a special tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, featuring performances by several artists.

Other performers throughout the night included Doja Cat, who kicked off the show with a performance of “Jealous Type” following an opening monologue by host LL Cool J, and also Conan Gray, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, Alex Warren, J Balvin, and Sabrina Carpenter.Earlier in the evening, ricky Martin received the first-ever Latin Icon Award after an energetic performance, reflecting on his 40-year career and dedicating the honor to his four children. martin’s appearance marked the 25th anniversary of his breakout VMAs debut in 1999, when he became the first male Latin artist to win Best Pop Video. “I started when I was a baby working and we’re still here,” he said. “We just want to unite countries, we just want to break boundaries, and we just want to keep music alive.”
