China Pledges Support to Afghanistan Following Devastating Earthquake

Responding to questions at a regular press briefing, Lin detailed China’s swift response to the disaster. President xi Jinping expressed his deep condolences for the loss of life and extended sympathy to those impacted during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) plus meeting in Tianjin on September 1st. He wished the Afghan government and people strength in overcoming this difficult period.
To that end, the chinese government has committed 50 million yuan (approximately $7.04 million) in emergency humanitarian aid. This aid package includes essential supplies such as tents, blankets, tarpaulins, and food, all urgently needed by those affected.
The first shipment of aid arrived in Kabul by plane on Sunday, with further deliveries planned in the coming days. Beyond the government’s contribution, the Chinese Embassy, various Chinese institutions, and the Association of Overseas Chinese in Afghanistan have mobilized to collect funds and donate emergency equipment. The Chinese Red Cross has also provided financial assistance to the Afghan Red Crescent Society.
