CHOUDRANT, La. – UTSA freshman Joshua Hong remains firmly in contention at the Argent Financial Classic, carding a second consecutive 2-under-par 70 on Monday at Squire Creek Country Club. The Roadrunners, as a team, improved thier score and sit 13th in the 99-player field.
Hong’s consistent play has him tied for 13th at 4-under 140 heading into Tuesday’s final round. The strong showing from the Guadalajara,Mexico native highlights UTSA’s promising young talent and their competitive drive in a challenging tournament field.
Hong’s second round featured four birdies, bringing his tournament total to eight.Starting on the 10th hole, he quickly recovered from an opening bogey with three straight birdies. He finished the back nine with a four on the 561-yard 17th and a three on the 456-yard 18th, finishing at 35. on the front nine, he birdied the 388-yard, par-4 first and the 546-yard, par-5 ninth, offsetting a bogey on the third. He is just one stroke outside the top-eight and two strokes behind the leaders.
UTSA collectively shot a 1-over 289, a three-shot advancement from Sunday’s opening round, and is currently at 5-over par. They hold a one-stroke advantage over Lamar and are only two strokes behind UAB.
Senior Logan Vargas is also performing well, tied for 34th at 1-under 143 after a 1-under 71 that included four birdies. Brayden Bare is 66th at 4-over 148 (75-73), while Francisco Solorza and Jacob King are 83rd (75-76-151) and 88th (78-75-153), respectively.
south Alabama leads the tournament at 15-under par, followed by southern Miss and Rice, both at 10-under par. The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.
