Volvo Begins ES90 Electric Vehicle Production, Starting at €71,990
Volvo has commenced production of its all-new, fully electric ES90 at its Chinese manufacturing facility, with European availability now confirmed. Teh model is positioned as a new class of vehicle, blending the form of a five-door liftback with a substantial 203mm of ground clearance.
The ES90 boasts a spacious interior featuring adjustable eight-way front seats and reclining rear seats with extended support and armrests. A extensive infotainment system includes a 9-inch instrument display, a 13.2-inch head-up display, and a central 14.5-inch touchscreen. A high-end Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 25 speakers, an electrochromatic panoramic roof, and an advanced suite of driver assistance systems utilizing five radars, seven cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and a Luminar LiDAR system are also included.
Volvo emphasizes sustainability in the ES90’s construction,utilizing up to 29% recycled aluminum,18% recycled steel,and incorporating up to 16% recycled or bio-based materials in its plastics. Even the wood panels are sourced with an FSC certificate.
The ES90 is the first Volvo model to feature a battery passport,detailing the origin of key battery materials like lithium,cobalt,nickel,and graphite,alongside its carbon footprint.
Powering the ES90 are new, more powerful electric motors and a central computer equipped with two Nvidia Drive AGX Orin processors capable of 508 trillion operations per second, managing assistance systems and battery performance. The vehicle utilizes an 800V architecture,enabling considerably faster charging times – a 20-minute improvement over the EX90’s 400V system. At a 350kW charger, the ES90 can gain 300km of range in just 10 minutes, and achieve a 10-80% charge in approximately 20 minutes with the “Breathe Battery Technology” software.
Three variants are available. The entry-level model,priced at €71,990 in Germany,features a single electric motor producing 333 horsepower (480 Nm) and a 92 kWh battery,offering a range of up to 645 km. A dual-motor, rear-wheel drive version with 449 hp (670 Nm) and a 106 kWh battery provides a manufacturer-estimated range of up to 700 km and is priced at €88,990. The top-of-the-line dual-motor Performance AWD model delivers 680 hp (870 Nm) with the same 106 kWh battery and range.
The Volvo ES90 is now available for order in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
