Jackie Chan‘s ‘The Shadow’s Edge‘ Maintains Box Office Dominance in China
BEIJING – Jackie Chan’s latest thriller,The Shadow’s Edge,continues to led the box office in China,adding RMB84.2 million ($11.7 million) to its running total, wich now stands at RMB 1.031 billion ($143.2 million), according to Artisan Gateway. Directed by Larry Yang, the film is proving a strong performer in the competitive Chinese market.
The success of The Shadow’s Edge underscores Chan’s enduring appeal with Chinese audiences and signals continued strength for action films in the region. The film follows retired Macau surveillance expert Wong Tak-Chung (Chan) as he’s called back into action to stop a high-tech heist orchestrated by the “wolf King,” aided by rookie cop He Qiuguo (Zhang Zifeng). They face off against Fu Longsheng (Tony Leung Ka-fai) and his criminal institution.
Elsewhere on the charts,”Nobody” (Shanghai Animation film) secured second place with $8.5 million, bringing its cumulative earnings to $215.4 million. the animated feature, directed by Yu Shui, reimagines the classic “Journey to the West” mythology. “Dead to Rights” (China Film) followed in third, earning $4.5 million and reaching a total of $409.3 million. Directed by Shen Ao and written by Shen Ao, Zhang Ke, and Xu Luyang, the film is set during the 1937 Nanjing Massacre and stars Liu Haoran.
Rounding out the top five where “Final destination: Bloodlines” (new Line cinema) with $1.8 million, reaching a total of $21.8 million, and “Shenzhou 13” (China Media Group), a documentary about China’s 2021 crewed space mission, debuting with $1.5 million.
Overall weekend box office takings reached $37.3 million, pushing China’s 2025 box office total to $5.523 billion – an 18.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
