Zelensky condemns ‘ruthless attack’ after Russia hits main government building in Kyiv

Kyiv -‌ Ukrainian ⁣President Volodymyr⁤ Zelensky condemned a “ruthless ‍attack” after a Russian strike hit a main government building in Kyiv on Sunday, as‌ widespread‍ attacks across Ukraine left multiple people dead and injured.

Zelensky reported casualties in several ​regions, including one⁤ death in safonivka,‍ Sumy ⁣region, and another⁢ in the Chernihiv region. In Zaporizhzhia, 17 people were injured when⁤ strikes hit⁢ homes, a nursery,⁣ and other buildings, according to regional governance head Ivan Fedorov. Fedorov also reported a woman ‍killed and a man missing​ after a Russian glide bomb struck Novopavlivka village.

In Kyiv, Valentina,⁢ a resident, was sleeping when her apartment was struck by a‍ drone, according to‌ reports.

Russia also targeted Kryvyi Rih, Zelensky’s hometown, damaging three⁢ infrastructure facilities. Air raid warnings were activated ‌across all Ukrainian‌ regions⁣ overnight.

Meanwhile, Ukraine ​launched strikes into Russia. The Russian defense ministry claimed‍ its forces downed or⁢ intercepted 69 Ukrainian drones in multiple regions. At least three⁤ civilians were killed and buildings damaged in the ⁣Belgorod region, according⁤ to governor ⁤Vyacheslav Gladkov. Ukrainian unmanned ‍aerial ‍forces commander Robert Brovdi said a pumping‌ station on ‌the Druzhba ​oil pipeline in Russia’s Bryansk region⁤ was struck.

The attacks follow a Paris summit where Western proposals for‍ a “reassurance force” in Ukraine following any ceasefire were‌ rejected ⁤by ⁢Russian President Vladimir ⁤Putin.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned Sunday’s attacks, stating Putin “believes‌ he can act with ⁤impunity” and ​”is not serious‍ about peace.” French President Emmanuel⁣ Macron announced 26 of ​Ukraine’s allies had formally committed to deploying troops “by land, sea or air” to​ provide security once fighting stops,‌ though details remain scarce.Putin warned any troops deployed to Ukraine would be‌ considered “legitimate targets.”

Russia launched its full-scale invasion​ of Ukraine in February 2022 and currently controls ‌approximately ‌20% of Ukrainian⁤ territory, including the ⁢Crimean peninsula, annexed in 2014.
