Glamorgan have made history, becoming teh first team to reach the finals of both the Vitality Blast and the metro Bank One-day Cup in the new ECB Women’s League 2 structure. Thay secured their place in the One-Day Cup final with a victory over Northants Steelbacks in the semi-final at sophia Gardens.
This achievement marks a meaningful milestone for Glamorgan, demonstrating their dominance in the regional women’s cricket landscape. The team’s success impacts the future of women’s cricket in Wales, providing inspiration and raising the profile of the sport. The One-Day Cup final will be held at Worcester.
Glamorgan started strongly after being put in to bat, with captain Lauren Parfitt and Abbey Freeborn building an opening partnership of 66 runs. Northants fought back with rapid wickets, but a resilient innings from Bethan ellis, alongside counter-attacking strokes from Bea Ellis, steadied the ship.
Despite a mid-innings wobble that left them at 165-6,a partnership between Bethan Ellis and eve Jackson bolstered the score. Though, Northants’ death bowlers restricted Glamorgan to a final total of 209.
The momentum shifted after the interval, with glamorgan’s bowlers taking control. Eve Jackson and Gemma Porter delivered an extraordinary new-ball display, but it was Nicole Reid who proved decisive. Introduced in place of Gemma Porter, Reid struck immediately, stumping Chloe Hill with her second delivery, aided by Georgia Parfitt’s wicketkeeping.
Reid continued to dismantle the Northants middle order, supported by left-arm spinner Katy Cobb. She finished with career-best figures of 5-35 from her 10 overs, securing Glamorgan’s victory.
