brazilian Girl, 6, Rescued After Alleged Lifetime of Isolation, Unable to Speak
SOROCABA, Brazil – A six-year-old girl has been rescued from a home in Sorocaba, São Paulo state, Brazil, after authorities discovered she had been confined to a room for her entire life, reportedly deprived of basic necessities and human interaction. Police arrested her parents and charged them with unlawful detention.
Officers conducted a welfare check at the residence and found the girl in a dark, dingy room. She had never attended school, received vaccinations, or learned to speak, communicating only through “unorthodox sounds,” according to authorities.A photograph from the scene shows the impression of the girl’s back on a stained wall and a single teddy bear.”the girl was very apathetic and dazzled by everything,” said child protection counsellor Ligia Guerra. She described the girl’s hair as “tangled” and appearing “never been washed.” The child had not eaten that day and had been raised on a liquid diet, police confirmed.
The girl is now receiving medical care and has been placed in a children’s home.
Police chief Renata Zanin stated that the mother “cannot grasp the gravity of the situation,” offering “evasive answers” during interrogation and displaying “no remorse whatsoever.” Both parents remain in police custody.
The case echoes a recent incident in spain where three neglected siblings were found living in horrific conditions, allegedly forced to wear face masks and sleep in caged beds.
