“Street Fighter” Movie Set for 2026 Release, Braces for Box Office Battle with “Mortal Kombat II”

Legendary Pictures has secured a distribution agreement with Paramount Pictures, positioning the movie for a 2026 release and a direct competition with ”Mortal Kombat II.”
After over two years of advancement, filming has commenced on the adaptation of the iconic fighting game franchise. The story is set in 1993 and centers on Ryu and Ken, who find themselves drawn back together by Chun-Li to compete in the World Fighter championship. The tournament promises a brutal test of skill, fate, and resolve, but hides a deeper conspiracy that will force the two warriors to confront their pasts.
According to a three-year agreement between legendary Pictures and Paramount Pictures, “Street Fighter” is slated to hit theaters on October 16, 2026.Legendary Pictures will develop and produce the film in collaboration with Capcom, the original video game developer and publisher. The film will be directed by Kitao Sakurai.
the announced cast features a diverse range of talent,including Noah Centineo as Ken,Andrew Koji as Ryu,and Callina Liang as Chun-Li. Cody Rhodes, known for his professional wrestling career, will portray Guile.
Further casting includes orville Peck as Vega, 50 Cent as Jackson, Jason Momoa as blanka, and Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim.olivier Richters will play Zangief, Hirooki Goto will embody E. Honda, and David dastmalchian will take on the role of M. Bison.
rounding out the ensemble are Roman Reigns as Akuma,Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki,Eric Andre as a broadcaster,Mel Jarnson as Cammy,Rayna Vallandingham as Juli,and Alexander Volkanovski as Joe. Kyle Mooney will play Marvin, a non-fighter character.
The release of “Street Fighter” coincides with the planned release of “Mortal Kombat II” five months later. Both franchises were dominant forces in the fighting game genre during the 1990s, and their respective film adaptations will now vie for box office success in 2026, ultimately determining which fighting game movie will emerge victorious.
