Koungheul Department Allocates $15,000 USD to Support Students and Schools
Koungheul, Senegal – the Koungheul Departmental Council, led by President Socé Diop Dionne, disbursed 9 million FCFA (approximately $15,000 USD) in subsidies to local schools and student associations last Tuesday. The funding aims to bolster educational resources and infrastructure within the department, despite ongoing budgetary challenges.
The allocation saw 6 million FCFA ($10,000 USD) directed towards student associations representing students from Dakar,Thiès,Bambey,Kaolack,Ziguinchor,and saint-Louis. The remaining 3 million FCFA ($5,000 USD) was granted to schools within Koungheul department to support security and operational costs.
President Dionne emphasized the commitment to education, noting the funds were sourced from the 2025 budget despite “limited resources and delays in allocated funds.” She also highlighted ongoing and planned infrastructure projects,including the construction of an administrative block at the Missirah Wadène College,an infirmary at the El Hadji Ibrahima Ba High School,a perimeter wall for a new high school (in partnership with othre organizations),an administrative block at the Lour College,and two additional classrooms at the Ribot CEM (middle school).
“Despite budgetary constraints, the Departmental Council has honored its commitments to students and educational structures,” President Dionne stated.
Representatives from beneficiary schools,student associations,and Ibrahima Konaté,the Education and Training Inspector (IEF) for Koungheul,expressed gratitude for the Council’s support. Konaté specifically commended the Departmental Council’s investment in the education sector.
