Djimon hounsou Joins ‘Highlander‘ Reboot as Immortal warrior
The cast of the upcoming Highlander reboot continues to expand with the addition of Djimon Hounsou, according to The hollywood Reporter. Hounsou will portray an immortal African warrior in the film, joining previously announced stars Henry Cavill and Dave Bautista.
This casting arrives as a point of concern for fans of the acclaimed actor, given a recent pattern of underutilized talent in Hollywood. Despite two Academy Award nominations, Hounsou has frequently been relegated to supporting roles that don’t fully showcase his capabilities, most recently in films like A Quiet Place Part II and Rebel Moon. The Highlander reboot, directed by Chad Stahelski, aims to expand the mythology of the original films, and the hope is that Hounsou will be given a considerable role within that expanded universe.
Stahelski intends to build upon the established Highlander lore, but the primary question remains whether the project will provide Hounsou with the opportunity to deliver a performance commensurate with his talent. The actor is currently slated for roles in the 2025 survival thriller Shiver, and the upcoming films The Monster and The Zealot, offering several potential avenues for a career resurgence.
Highlander is currently scheduled for release in 2026.
