Perozzi Dominates Season Opener, Propels Cal Cross Country
California University of Pennsylvania cross country standout Rosalyn Perozzi secured a decisive victory at teh Race in the Park on Saturday, September 7, finishing the 5K course in 16:20.0-nearly 14 seconds ahead of the competition. The win marks a strong start to the Vulcans‘ 2024 season.
Perozzi’s performance signals Cal’s ambition for continued success following her strong 2024 showings at the PSAC championships and NCAA Regional Championships, where she ranked second on the team. The team’s overall performance at the Race in the park showcased both veteran leadership and promising freshman talent,setting a positive tone as they prepare for their next challenge. Cal will travel to New York City on Friday, September 12, to compete in the 30th-annual Br. John “Paddy” Doyle Meet of Champions hosted by Iona.
Freshman Kailyn Hamilton also made an impressive collegiate debut, finishing fifth overall with a time of 17:04.9. Additional Cal runners contributing to the team’s results included Gabriella Fralin (17:47.1),Sarah Sipe (18:06.3), Sarabeth Caldwell (18:45.7), Mallory Neus (20:23.5), Emma McMath (20:56.7), and Rebekah Priano (21:01.8).
