Hyderabad: Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Hyderabad took a notable turn on Saturday, September 6, as trucks carrying Ganesh idols were decorated with ⁢imagery referencing “Operation Sindoor,” a ‍recent Indian‍ military action. The ⁣themed⁣ trucks were observed passing through the historic Charminar area during the city’s annual immersion procession.

Operation Sindoor refers to the Indian⁢ government’s military response in May ⁤2025 against Pakistan, launched in the wake⁣ of the Pahalgam attack. The inclusion ⁢of this theme on the Ganesh idol trucks reflects a current wave of national sentiment and remembrance of the military ​operation amidst the festive atmosphere.

Elsewhere in the city, the 69-foot tall Khairatabad Ganesh⁢ idol⁢ was ⁢immersed in ​Hussain Sagar Lake before noon. The‍ procession route began at ⁣Khairatabad Libary and proceeded via Telephone Bhavan, Saifabad, and the Telangana secretariat. Thousands of devotees lined the ​streets to witness the event.

Approximately‍ 50,000 Ganesh idols were immersed in hussain Sagar Lake, contributing to a total of 1.4 lakh idols immersed⁣ throughout Greater Hyderabad over a 40-hour ​period. Authorities deployed notable resources for safety and cleanup, including ​nine boats, Disaster Response Force teams, 200 swimmers, over 29,000 police personnel, and ​15,000 sanitation workers.

Traditional auctions⁤ of⁢ laddu prasadam also took place, with the Balapur laddu fetching Rs 35 lakh and the Bandlaguda laddu selling for Rs⁣ 2.32 crore. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy ⁢visited⁤ the Khairatabad pandal to offer prayers.
