Boxing legends Tyson and Mayweather to Clash in 2025
After facing criticism following his exhibition bout against Jake Paul, Mike Tyson is scheduled for another high-profile duel – a fight against boxing icon Floyd Mayweather.
Tyson’s recent fight against Paul, held on November 15, 2024, in Arlington, Texas, spanned eight rounds. The 58-year-old Tyson displayed a noticeably slower pace compared to his prime. The event, streamed live on Netflix, attracted over 60 million viewers worldwide but also drew meaningful criticism regarding the age and experience disparity between Tyson and the 31-year-old Paul.
Mayweather boasts an remarkable career record, having secured five World Championships across different weight classes. He never competed above the junior middleweight limit of 154 pounds (approximately 70 kg). Mayweather’s last official fight was in 2017 against MMA fighter Conor McGregor.
The 47-year-old Mayweather retired with a perfect 50-0 record and is widely regarded as one of history’s most defensively skilled boxers. He has participated in several exhibition matches sence his official retirement, including a 2021 bout against YouTuber Logan Paul. “When CSI (martial arts promoter) spoke to me about a fight against Floyd Mayweather, I thought: ‘This will never happen’,” Tyson stated in a CSI proclamation.
“But: Floyd said yes.”
While an official date remains unconfirmed, speculation points towards an event in the first half of 2025. The significant weight difference between Tyson (recently weighing around 104 kilograms) and Mayweather (never having fought above 70 kilograms) may necessitate special fight regulations.
