juiz de Fora Hospital Prioritizes Emergency Cases Following Deadly Bus Accident
The Juiz de Fora Emergency Room Hospital has temporarily restricted non-urgent care following a serious accident on BR-040 near kilometer 799 on Friday, September 5th. The accident, involving a Viação Cometa tour bus and a municipal bus, resulted in four fatalities and 31 injuries. The hospital is currently focusing on treating critical cases, and the city is directing patients with non-emergency medical needs to Emergency Care Units (UPAs) and Basic Health Units (UBS).The accident occurred when the tour bus collided with a municipal bus stopped on the shoulder of the road, causing it to overturn. Firefighters reported that passengers from the municipal bus were ejected during the impact. Three adults and one child died at the scene, and 24 were transported to the Juiz de Fora Emergency Hospital.
Seven passengers on the tour bus, wich was carrying 30 individuals, also sustained injuries. A four-year-old child,rescued from the wreckage,was taken to Santa Teresinha Maternity with a suspected leg fracture.Three other tour bus passengers received treatment for facial abrasions at the Municipal Emergency Hospital.A large-scale rescue operation involved six fire brigade vehicles and 14 personnel, alongside support from the Military Police, Municipal Guard, Federal Highway Police (PRF), and Juiz de Fora traffic inspection.
The City of Juiz de Fora has expressed its condolences and stated that teams from the Secretariats of Health, Urban Mobility, Security, and Social Assistance are actively responding to the situation. Social workers from the Secretariat of Social Assistance and the Secretariat of Human Rights have been deployed to the hospital to provide support to victims and their families.
Viação Cometa released a statement expressing regret over the incident and offering full cooperation with the investigation and support to those affected.Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
