President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend the US Open men’s singles final on Sunday, marking his first appearance at the Grand Slam tennis event as 2015.
The visit comes as President Trump,re-elected to a second term in 2024,returns to a sporting event in his hometown of New York City. His attendance adds a layer of political interest to the championship match, as the US Open is a major cultural event often attracting high-profile figures.
President Trump, 79, a native of Queens, the borough where the US Open is held at Flushing Meadows, has been a previous visitor to the tournament, including an appearance with his wife, Melania, a decade ago. A White House official confirmed the President’s expected attendance to the BBC.
During his last visit in 2015, Trump was greeted by American tennis legend John McEnroe while observing the matches from a hospitality area.
The men’s final will be contested by players determined through Friday’s semi-final matches. Novak Djokovic of Serbia will face Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, followed by a match between Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Notably, no American players will compete in this year’s men’s singles final. The championship match is scheduled to begin at 14:00 (19:00 BST) on sunday.
