GarrettS Hip Injury Puts Browns opener Status in doubt
BEREA,Ohio – Cleveland Browns All-Pro defensive end myles Garrett is questionable for Sunday’s season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals after missing Thursday’s practice with a hip injury.
Garrett did not appear on Wednesday’s injury report, making the injury a new development. His availability for the game will likely be clarified on friday following the release of official injury designations after practice.
The four-time All-Pro pass rusher has historically performed well against Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, recording nine sacks – his most against any single opponent. Garrett is currently the only player in the NFL with double-digit sacks in each of the last seven seasons.
The news comes after a busy nine months for Garrett. He signed a four-year, $204.8 million contract extension in March. On August 9th,he received a citation for driving 100 mph in a Ferrari on a Cleveland-area interstate, marking his eighth speeding ticket since being drafted first overall in 2017.
garrett was involved in a single-car accident in 2022, flipping his porsche after veering off a road near his home following practice. He sustained a sprained shoulder, strained biceps, cuts, and bruises, and was cited for failure to control his vehicle and unsafe speed, causing him to miss one game.
Despite the Browns’ 3-14 record last season, Garrett still managed 14 sacks and finished third in AP Defensive Player of the Year voting. He also led the league with 22 tackles for loss and ranked fourth with an 18.7-percent pressure rate.In addition to Garrett, linebacker Easton Mascarenas-arnold did not practice Thursday due to an Achilles tendon injury. Defensive tackle Mike Hall, who was sidelined Wednesday with knee issues, was a limited participant in Thursday’s practice.
