Dacia to Launch Unique ⁣Hybrid AWD System ⁢on Duster and ‌Bigster, Featuring LPG Option

Dacia is preparing to introduce an all-wheel drive (AWD) hybrid powertrain option for both its Duster and ‍Bigster SUV models, a system the automaker claims is unique in the current automotive market. The new ⁢drivetrain combines a gasoline⁤ engine with LPG capability and an electric motor, offering⁢ a novel approach‍ to enhanced traction and efficiency.

The hybrid system centers⁢ around a⁤ 1.2-liter three-cylinder⁣ engine paired with a 48V starter-generator and a 23kW (31 hp) electric motor positioned above the rear axle.‍ the combined system delivers a total output of 113kW (154 hp) and 230 Nm of torque. A key feature is the dual-fuel capability, with the vehicles‍ equipped with two ⁤50-liter tanks – one for gasoline and one for LPG – potentially providing ‌a total range‌ of approximately‌ 1500 kilometers.

Dacia states ‌that the vehicle can ‌operate in electric⁣ mode for up to‌ 60% of journeys. The rear-wheel drive system, ⁢powered by the electric motor, can be ⁢fully disconnected to conserve ⁣energy and re-engage automatically when front-wheel traction⁣ is compromised, optimizing performance in ⁣conditions like snow, mud, or sand.

The ‌internal ⁣combustion engine is coupled with⁢ a six-speed dual-clutch automatic ⁢transmission with paddle shifters. The ‌rear electric motor utilizes a two-stage gearbox, a ⁣unique solution ⁢designed to deliver high⁤ torque at low speeds for enhanced acceleration and braking, while also optimizing efficiency at higher speeds. Dacia confirms⁣ the electric motor can operate up to 140 km/h, though ‍the overall vehicle top speed remains undisclosed.

Drivers can also manually control the electric ⁢motor via paddle shifters, providing⁤ added control in challenging ‌terrain. The system also includes pre-selected off-road modes for various surfaces, automatically adjusting torque distribution to the wheel with ⁢the‍ most grip. Importantly, the AWD system is entirely ‌electronic, with no mechanical connection between the front and rear axles.

While final homologation is still underway, Dacia anticipates ⁢fuel consumption ⁤figures between 7.1 and 7.2‍ liters ‍of LPG per ⁢100 km, or 5.5 to 5.6 liters of gasoline per 100⁣ km. Pricing⁤ details has not yet ⁣been released, but ⁤Dacia plans to⁢ launch the new AWD hybrid models by ‍the end of the year.
