Cardi B Vows Legal Action Against drink Thrower, Continues Pattern of Direct Responses to Criticism
LAS VEGAS, NV – July 30, 2023 – Cardi B is signaling a zero-tolerance policy for disrespectful fan behavior, vowing to pursue legal action after a concertgoer threw a drink at her during a performance at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas on July 29. The rapper responded in the moment by throwing her microphone back into the crowd and verbally confronting the attendee before security intervened.
This incident is the latest in a long-running pattern of Cardi B directly addressing criticism and negativity, a characteristic that has defined her career as its early stages. The artist has consistently used her platform - from social media to interviews and live performances – to defend herself and her choices.
Early in her rise to fame, Cardi B openly discussed and defended her decision to undergo plastic surgery, posting on instagram, “I don’t get why y’all gotta body shame b#%$@s who got their bodies done,” and asserting a woman’s right to alter her appearance as she sees fit.
She similarly addressed doubts about her readiness for motherhood after revealing her first pregnancy on Saturday Night Live in 2018.in an interview with The Breakfast Club*, Cardi B confidently stated, “You know what? I’m a grown woman. I’m 25 years old. I’m gonna say this in the most humblest way … I’m a schmillionaire, you know what I’m saying? And I’m prepared for this.”
Cardi B has also confronted skepticism regarding her professional output. Responding to a fan who suggested she feared releasing a second album, she declared, “I’m never afraid of numbers … and I don’t have to put out another album if I don’t want to. I eats good off my diamond records alone,” and highlighted the success of her 2019 Arena Tour, which she claimed averaged over $1 million gross per show – a first for a female rapper. Her second album, “Am I the Drama?” is scheduled for release on September 19, 2025.
The rapper has also been vocal about defending her authentic self, posting to her 169 million Instagram followers in 2021, “I’ve never been afraid to show my real self. When you on top, the miserable and the ugly love to screenshot pictures while you in motion, then criticize your face. I’m confident in my own skin.”
Beyond self-defence, Cardi B has extended support to fellow artists. In August 2021, she publicly encouraged Lizzo after the singer shared the emotional toll of cyberbullying, tweeting, ”When you stand up for yourself they claim you [are] problematic and sensitive. When you don’t, they tear you apart until you crying like this… Remember these are nerds looking at the popular table.” The two artists later collaborated on the song “Rumors,” which received an MTV Video Music award nomination for “Best Song of Summer” that year.
